Tim Ferriss: To Relieve Muscle Tension, Use a Vibrator
|You read that right. 4-Hour guru Tim Ferriss encourages athletes and frequent gym-goers to invest in a vibrator. But not for the reason you’re thinking of.
Those who struggle with chronic muscle tension as a result of fitness training can run the wand of a vibrator along the “belly” of their muscles to relax them almost instantly. Just 20 to 30 seconds should do the trick, Ferriss promises. The frequency, if you set the device to high, just happens to be exactly what tight, aching muscles need to calm down.
Ferriss’s recent article in Outside Magazine talks about his new book, highlighting some of the best fitness advice he’s gotten from guests on his podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. The tip about the vibrator came from a Russian medical-massage specialist. Those who are constantly massaging tense muscles in their legs, back and neck can really benefit from this trick.
MP’s Take: Hey, anything to relax those tight leg and back muscles, right? This is only one of many of Ferriss’s suggestions for improving physical strength, flexibility and performance, but it’s definitely something we’d never heard before. It could potentially be a much cheaper alternative to getting regular massages or physical therapy, if chronic muscle tension is a major issue for you. Try it out, if you want. See if it helps. The results may surprise you.
